Beat Pixar and Ralph,
so didn’t want to like it-
but have to confess:
clever, fresh, original-
animation feat!
It’s visual innovation-
Old-school comic strips,
complete with sketched thought bubbles
and freeze-frame panels;
Fascinating flipbook feel,
detailed hand-drawn frames.
It looks but also sounds great-
A stellar soundtrack
with blast-worthy tracks and tunes.
Dynamic story,
quick action fight scenes with verve,
playful one-liners,
comic fourth-wall disregard;
too much at once but
they even managed to add
father and uncle
touching origin story
that isn’t clichéd!
Esteemed ensemble voice cast-
Who do we have here?
Miles has charm, heart, and spunk,
Gwen Stacy’s sexy,
Peni’s anime robot,
Noir’s dark-funny,
Porky’s from “That’s all, Folks!” World,
plus there’s not one but
two OG Peter Parkers!
Aunt May’s quite the gal,
Octavius is a gal!,
The Kingpin’s got his
own piteous backstory.
And back in Brooklyn,
Jefferson’s the cop father,
Rio’s a sweet mom,
Uncle Aaron’s great at bad!
But seven Spideys,
alternate universes
within multiverse,
or parallel dimensions?
makes for some chaos!
Animation styles clashed,
didn’t always work-
but who can really find fault
with animated Stan Lee(s)?
